On the eve of the Vice Presidential polls, Opposition INDIA bloc nominee and former Supreme Court judge Justice B. Sudershan Reddy reached out to allies in Delhi, meeting Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) MP Hanuman Beniwal and Azad Samaj Party chief Chandrasekhar Azad on Monday evening.

Expressing gratitude after the meeting, Reddy described Beniwal’s support as a “memorable moment” in his campaign. “I express gratitude to Hanuman Beniwal for supporting me. This is a memorable moment in my life, when one of the tall leaders of our country came to extend his support,” he told ANI.

The INDIA bloc has also named its election agents, appointing Syed Naseer Hussain, Manickam Tagore, and Shatabdi Roy as polling agents, while Shakti Singh Gohil and Manickam Tagore will serve as counting agents.

On the NDA side, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, TDP MP Ram Mohan Naidu, and Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde have been designated as election agents for its candidate, CP Radhakrishnan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to be the first to cast his vote on Tuesday, alongside MPs from Punjab and Haryana, sources said.

The Vice President’s post fell vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on July 21 citing health reasons. The election will see a direct contest between Radhakrishnan and Reddy.

As per the Constitution, the Vice President is elected by members of both Houses of Parliament through a system of proportional representation by means of a single transferable vote, with voting conducted via secret ballot.
